Etihad from Abu Dhabi adopted Fast Growth thinking and tried to invest in all sort of airlines around the globe. Some of them I hadn’t even heard of until recently. On the flip side, Etihad posted 1.87 billion-dollar loss in which most money was dropped from 2 heartbreaking Airlines as Alitalia and Air Berlin.
Niki isn’t doing that well either. It is just floating in the water. Whereas Air Serbia turned the tides in Europe and is doing pretty well. About 808 Million dollars were lost to Air Berlin and Alitalia.
Etihad used to provide spa to people who used to use the lounge at Heathrow, London for years. First Etihad used to provide the lounge for both Business and First class passengers. Later, they changed it to only First class for complimentary whereas Business class would have to pay for the spa. Obviously, nobody was willing to pay for it. Even further, the spa wasn’t considered the epitome of greatness as you have it in Thailand.
This isn’t first cut and this isn’t definitely the last cut coming from Etihad. On saving a note, JAL and ANA did the same thing in Tokyo Narita and Haneda airport. Who knows airport spa may be thing of past soon. Why does it matter to our Indian audience? Well, members of Jet Airways were using the same lounge and same service till date. Hence, Jetpriviledge members won’t get spa anymore when they are flying out of Heathrow.
Etihad has probably been doing a bit more cost-cutting than Emirates and Qatar, and it’s really starting to show when it comes to their product. This includes things like them cutting back the food choices in their lounges, eliminating chauffeur service outside the UAE, etc. On top of that, they’re starting to trim their schedule a bit, like cutting their Abu Dhabi to San Francisco route. All of this is only the beginning.
I guess those Oil Coffers are definitely not unlimited and there are measure to slow down.
