International operations at Kochi Airport move into Terminal 3 from today
Airline will operate 6 daily international flights from the new international terminal
Enhanced customer services with more check-in and immigration counters
Terminal 3 is the official home base for Air India Express. They have 4 flights a day operating from the new terminal whereas there are 4 domestics flights operated by Air India here. I believe it would be having similar effect for Jet Airways who always follow into Air India footsteps and move domestic and International operation into the same terminal as evidenced in Mumbai and Delhi.
Jet Airways will operate a total of 6 flights daily from the new international terminal, with services to Doha, Sharjah, Dammam, Abu Dhabi, Muscat and Dubai, providing guests superior connectivity and comfort.
We also have Emirates, Thai Airways, Etihad, Silk Air, Malindo Air, Air Asia, Spicejet, Qatar Airways, Oman Air, Gulf Air, Sri Lankan, Air Arabia and few other operate will operate out of the same terminal.
For now Kochi is acting as a major gateway to the middle east. Only other destinations that flights travel to are Colombo, Male, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. However, there are rumors that Kochi would soon be connected directly to Europe soon.
Terminal 3 features 84 check-in counters at three check-in islands, together with 40 counters each for immigration and emigration in the Arrivals and Departure sections.
This is a mixed feeling for me. So far, Kochi airport was one of the cheapest airports for India to fly internationally. I would specifically try to ticket my way out from there. With this new move, air tickets would become more expensive from Kochi. On another end, Kochi airport was barebones and now would have an amazing lounge and other facilities. This is now 4th largest airport in India.
From looks of it, if Qatar Airways does move to India, they would be using this Airport as their home base along with rumored Bangalore airport.
