This move has now been delayed by about two weeks. The new policy comes into effect on tickets booked October 12, 2018, onwards for flights on or after October 15, 2018.

I’m not sure why did the airline change their plans. I would guess that they wanted a bit more time to be better prepared for in-flight operations. I believe they learnt that cabin crew needs to be re-trained for collecting money and checking if tech is working in the sky or not. 

Somehow I like the idea that if I don’t like the regular air food – I have an option of buying something that I want to eat vs being dependent on the food that is served in the tray.
