The discount is only valid for tickets purchased 7 days prior to the flight and citizens would be required to produce age proof at the airport. As Indian airport anyway require identification even to the airport premises.

As the option is only available on Air India website https://airindia.in/, the discount would only be available if the tickets are booked directly and not via Online Travel Agencies.

You are required to put in your Origin, Destination, and dates. After you have selected the following, there is an option to avail domestic concession. Click on Yes radio button and from the drop down menu – select Senior Citizen and book your ticket.

Remember, those discount are applicable only on Economy tickets and on the domestic routes. All the fare types are not included in the discount and you can easily find a cheaper fare especially when there is a sale going on. However, on most days, this might be helpful to a particular segment of the audience.
