Jet Airways has changed their rules for web check-in. This feature hasn’t rolled out completely yet and hence different users might have a different experience. However, on the official site, this is the information that has been provided.
This essentially confirms their position on the issue. You can now check-in 48 hours prior as well, to have the pick on the best seats, but you need to pay for them. Earlier, the window for Platinums and Gold members of their frequent flier program was 48 hours, while for Silver and downwards and non-members flying in Economy it was 24 hours.
Jet Airways charges INR between INR 149 to INR 749 for domestic flight seat selection, and for international flights, anywhere upwards of INR 600 to a few thousand rupees depending on your segment.
Bottomline
Jet Airways is for now rewarding their Frequent Flyer member at expenses of others. However, I am not sure what changes are in line. Everyday Jet Airways changes are getting them on a similar note to Low-Cost carriers. I am rooting for Vistara to widen their network so I can soon hop onto that network asap and enjoy Starbucks coffee in business class. Whereas Jet Airways might become the same airline as they were with JET-LITE years.
